About Pilates Glossy
Pilates Glossy is a magazine for people who like to know why an exercise works before they repeat it ten times. We write about the Pilates method on the mat and on the apparatus, about the history of the work and the teachers who carried it from one New York studio to the rest of the world, and about everything that sits around a good practice: mobility, rest, food, balance, and the small habits that keep a body moving for decades.
What you will find here
- Pilates: the classical repertoire, mat or reformer, the elders and their lineages, and the questions teachers argue about.
- Mobility and recovery: hips, backs, rest days and sleep, explained without miracle promises.
- Workouts at home: short sessions for a living-room floor, a hotel room or a lunch break.
- Plant-based food: protein that tastes of something, breakfasts after an early class, beans cooked from dry.
- Wellbeing: breath, stress and balance, with a particular eye on strength in later life.
- Lifestyle and the fitness business: books, travel, studios, teacher training and the realities of running a room.
Who writes it
Five regular writers, whom we call our coaches. Imogen Hale covers the classical work and its history. Mateo Ferrer writes about mobility and recovery. Priya Nandakumar cooks and writes about plant-based food. Josie Calloway handles home workouts and the business side of teaching. Ruth Abernethy writes about wellbeing, balance and movement in later life. You can read more about each of them on the coaches page.
How we work
We read the research before we repeat it, and we say so when the evidence is thin. Health pieces are general information for healthy adults, not personal advice: if you are injured, pregnant, recovering from surgery or simply unsure, a doctor or a physiotherapist who can see you in person comes first.
We do not run advertising, sponsored posts or affiliate links, and nobody pays to appear in a story. When we mention a teacher, a studio or a book, it is because it helps the reader.
Pictures on the site are illustrations made for us. They are not photographs of our writers' students or of the teachers we write about.
Writing to us
Story ideas, corrections and questions for a coach are always welcome through the contact page. We read everything, and we correct mistakes openly.
